Queen Considering New Material

Queen drummer Roger Taylor has told www.queenonline.com that he is keen to get back in the studio with guitarist Brian May to work on what would become the band's second album without the late Freddie Mercury and bassist John Deacon who is no longer involved in the music industry.

During an interview with the bands website, when asked about the possibility of new material to co-incide with the bands 40th anniversary this year, Taylor said, "I would like to do some more new Queen material with Brian."

He also claimed that he didn’t think 2008’s ‘The Cosmos Rocks,' which was recorded with Free and Bad Company frontman Paul Rodgers behind the microphone, deserved the negative reaction it received in some places.

"The Cosmos Rocks album was not at all bad and I thoroughly enjoyed the tours we did with Paul," he said. "He is one of the finest singers alive. I regret that some people expected him to be Freddie; how crass."

Rodgers originally began touring with Queen in 2005, performing the band's greatest hits before they decided to begin work on ‘The Cosmos Rocks’. However, the band announced in 2009 that the Queen & Paul Rodgers collaboration had ended without animosity on either side as Rodgers reunited his band Bad Company.

Taylor also briefly mentioned the soon to arrive Freddie Mercury biopic which will have Sacha Baron Cohen in the lead role. "Our involvement is significant, but not upfront," he said. "We will, however, be in charge of the music."
