Just when you thought you couldn’t hear any more about 13-year-old internet sensation Rebecca Black, the singer has courted more negative criticism with a performance on the Jay Leno Show. After a brief interview, the singer was caught lip syncing to her debut single ‘Friday’, not even holding the mic when the lyrics began.
The more defensive fans might blame the shows’ producers for beginning the track before the young star was ready. However, judging by the torrent of negative comments that Black has received over the past two weeks on YouTube, compassion probably won’t be the first thing on people’s minds.
Black talked to Leno briefly before the blotched performance, discussing the number of parodies which have flooded in after the success of her ‘Friday’ video, which currently has 42 million views online. Speaking about the parodies, she said: “I’ve seen them. I think they can either be really hilarious, making me laugh until I cry, but others are really lame.”
The singer also revealed that the $1 million which she is reported to have earned from the track so far will all be donated to the Japanese relief effort.
