Justin Bieber has agreed to film a public service announcement concerning cyberbullying in order to save his manager from criminal charges after a poorly-planned mall appearance. Criminal charges were filed against the teen singer’s manager after an incident in a New York shopping centre in 2009.
The singer had attracted an unexpectedly large crowd, and both Bieber’s manager Scott Braun and Def Jam Records executive James Roppo were accused by police of failing to disperse the crowd, leading to child endangerment charges.
However according to Associated Press, prosecutors have now dropped the charges after both men pleaded guilty to breaking fire code regulations. The issue was resolved when Bieber agreed to make a public service announcement on cyberbullying.
Speaking about the termination of the case, district attorney Kathleen Rice said: "To have someone like Justin Bieber who is emulated by kids his age across the world, educating people about the dangers of cyberbullying, that's invaluable."
Meanwhile, Bieber has confirmed that he will be touring Japan after reports began circulating that members of his crew were looking to cancel the jaunt. Several of Bieber’s crew members are said to have wished to call off the tour, citing fear of radiation as the main reason.
However, it would appear that Bieber is less concerned himself, as he wrote on Twitter over the weekend: “Five shows left of this leg of the ‘My World’ tour! Manila, Hong Kong, Taipei, Osaka and Tokyo! Like I said...we are going to Japan!”
