Asthma Attacks, from someone who has witnessed a fair few, are potentially deadly, frightening and far too frequent for comforts sake. Therefore, this song is the exact opposite of one, which is good. I’d hate to be struggling for breath as a result of listening to a song about someone who seems to have Stockholm Syndrome for good old London Town.
CNBK laments about our fair capital city, about how it’s dirty, unlovable and generally can be quite unpleasant, which is a sentiment that can applied in part and to all Cities really, but London has that special place in her heart for it. After all, it was “the first one that I lost my heart to, so how could I ever forget you”. It gives her an asthma attack, as it happens which is probably less metaphorical than it sounds. But, like all good residents, she keeps on coming back. It’s a mad affliction with the sights, sounds and feelings that surround the place, a place filled with rich history, exclusive shopping and mental nightlife, as well as being one of the most famous cities in the world, something she describes as all “the different shades”. People that complain or moan about London tend to live in it and say they would still not rather live anywhere else. This song pretty much captures that sentiment.
Infectious (pun intended) disco pop has now become par for the course for CNBK. It’s a pretty, dainty, upbeat little number that deserves a place in the charts. It’s a good little preview of the album, 'Adulthood', which is already out. Soulful, yet filled with personality, joy and charm 'Asthma Attack' keeps the listener hooked from the start to the fade without becoming all wrapped up in itself, and that, my friends, is good enough to need a nebuliser for.
