‘You Need Me, I Don’t Need You’, is the brand new single by exciting breakthrough artist Ed Sheeran. Set for release on August 28th, Zane Lowe has already made it ‘Hottest Record in the World’ and ‘Record Of The Week’, and it’s been added to daytime playlists at XFM and 1Xtra.
The forthcoming track comes hot on the heels of Ed’s debut, ‘The A Team’, which entered the singles chart at Number Three last month, making it the highest charting and biggest selling UK debut all year. The video has amassed 5 million views on YouTube and is pulling 100,000 views a day.
Originally told he needed to conform to succeed by dying his ginger hair and ditching his unique loop-pedal & rapped delivery, Ed responded by writing the now cult hit ‘You Need Me, I Don’t Need You’. Then, in February last year, after two years of constant gigging and sofa surfing, Ed filmed a live version of the song. The clip got 100,000 hits in two days on YouTube and is quickly approaching 3 million views. “I was told by countless people that it wouldn't get anywhere and that I should stop playing it, so to actually have it as my second single is flippin’ wicked” says Ed.
The pioneering video to ‘You Need Me, I Don’t Need You’, is directed by critically acclaimed British director Emil Nava (Jessie J, Devlin) and stars 17 year-old Matthew Morgan in an arresting sign language performance of the song, interspersed with cutting edge dance, graphics and performance shots. Check it out below.
Following numerous UK festival performances, October will see Ed take to the stage on another sold-out UK tour, taking in London’s Shepherds Bush Empire on the 3rd. His highly anticipated debut album ‘+’ set for release on September 12th.
