Reverend and the Makers Release New Riot-Inspired Track – Watch Now

Wednesday, 10 August 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

Inspired by the widespread riots currently making headline news across the UK, Sheffield’s Reverend and the Makers have released a new track – suitably-titled ‘Riot’ – which is available to watch below. The band have confirmed that the song will not become an official release, but is available to view on their YouTube page.

Speaking about the track, lead singer Jon McClure said: “I watched the events unfolding on the news the other night, same as everyone else, and was gutted to see the buildings on fire and people losing their businesses, the same way many of us have seen this coming for some time. Watching the news put me in mind of an old unfinished track that we had worked on. This is that track. It’s free, it’s not a money thing in any way, but I feel it my job as an artist to talk about and react to what's happening in my own way. This isn't part of any forthcoming Reverend album. It’s not gonna be a political record in the slightest, but to keep schtum when there's rioting in the streets just ain't me. Hope you enjoy.”

McClure recently announced via Twitter that work on the third Reverend and the Makers album – the follow-up to 2009’s ‘A French Kiss in the Chaos’ – is currently in progress. The band are probably best-known for their 2007 Top 10 single ‘Heavyweight Champion of the World’ and their debut album ‘The State of Things’, which reached Number 5 in the UK Albums Chart.
