Scottish indie rockers Glasvegas were bottled off stage just four songs into their set at V Festival on Saturday night.
The ‘Geraldine’ singers were bombarded with bottles by spectators, forcing them to stop performing early on in their set. When they tried to continue, they were met with more bottles, leading to the band walking off stage completely. An argument also erupted before the slot was cut short, paving the way for electronic icons Chase and Status to take over.
Loaded Magazine were at the festival and tweeted about the event, saying “Audience bottled band. Too many bottles. Had a ruck. Walked off.” There was ongoing discussions online as another user wrote “I was there - 4 songs, an argument, an aborted restart and a walk-off.”
You would have thought that Glasvegas would be an ideal band for a festival like the V festival, but it seems scheduling the group to perform between Katy B and Chase and Status, two predominantly electronic artists, meant that the indie four-piece would be surrounded by dubstep fans. With a lack of proper fans to support them, the crowd turned on the band which would have led to the bottling.
Glasvegas’ manager has released a statement following the episode.
“It's an honour for Glasvegas to play in front of any crowd. They performed at Pukkelpop before the storm blew in and we were reminded firsthand how important safety of a crowd and band are.
“The kids that come along to the festivals are passionate about their music - they've saved and sacrificed for months to pay for tickets and want to have an amazing weekend.
“The line up of the Arena Stage is very different from 'rock n'roll', but it really doesn't what matter what genre. Glasvegas respect this and will always give the crowd 100%. All we want is for everyone, including the band, to have a good time and go home safely.”
