Tom Meighan, frontman of Leicestershire rockers Kasabian, has publicly criticised the X-Factor and its contestants, describing it as “pathetic”.
The vocalist was with his band on board a grounded Boeing 747 performing for a VEVO video, when he spoke about the talent contest show spearheaded by mogul Simon Cowell.
“It's just really tragic,” Meighan said. It's not about singing, it's about TV. You get the contestants who are all, like, drooling. Pathetic isn't it? The egos are awful. Awful!”
It echoes statements the singer made back in 2009, which also slammed the popular ITV show.
He previously said: “The X Factor is like something ‘The Riddler’ would do in Batman. It sucks out everyone’s brains; I can’t believe how appallingly low we have gone as a nation for people to watch that pile of shit. It’s appalling music. It’s shocking.”
He also made comments about then-contestants Jedward and Susan Boyle – who are now both famous artists.
“The twins, John and Edward, are poor kids who don’t know what is going on. They have lost their heads. These kids have no idea. Look at Susan Boyle. It is appalling what they have done to her. She doesn’t know, does she, bless her. Poor thing.
“They are making her into this massive star and it is ridiculous. It will torture her for the rest of life. She is not ready for it and she is not made for it. She is being manipulated. It’s horrible.”
