Buffalo Lounge The Latest Cardiff Music Venue To Close

Cardiff has lost another of it’s live music venues, adding to a growing list in a year that has seen several of the Welsh capital’s smaller venues go out of business.
As with the recent closures of Millennium Music Hall and The Globe (since reopened under new management), events had been scheduled past the date of closure. In the case of Buffalo Lounge these will now move to the venues sister bars Buffalo Bar and Ten Feet Tall which both say they have no plans to follow suit.
Buffalo Lounge representatives are yet to speak on the topic, other than the message on its’ Twitter page announcing the closure and thanking its customers, staff and DJ’s.
Local writer and student, Ryan Crittenden summed up the mood saying ‘It’s a shame as the closure will mainly effect the local and student bands as Buffalo Lounge was the perfect little venue to showcase and practice. What’s worrying is, when you look at the bigger picture, the music scene is really struggling at the moment.’
It is another blow for a city that has always had a thriving local music scene, made possible by the availability of good quality small venues all over Cardiff. The recent closures mentioned above, as well as that of Barfly (since taken over by Bogiez) and The Point in Cardiff Bay, means Cardiff has lost several of the venues which gave the scene it’s character.
It’s not all doom and gloom though, there are still many venues in Cardiff that offer the same unique atmosphere and chance to see local up and coming bands across the city such as the Coal Exchange, Clwb Ifor Bach, The Gate and the Glee Club. Let’s hope this is a trend that starts to reverse itself soon.
