Ex-New Order bassist Peter Hook has spoken out about New Order’s decision to host reunion shows without him.
The band had reformed in 1998 and continued to release albums and tour until 2007, when Hook suggested they stop touring. The rest of the group, however, had no intention of stopping their careers, and bickered with Hook continuously, while the bassist continued to tell his fans and the media that there would be no more New Order and no new albums released.
But, the rest of the group have decided to reform once again, much to the anger of Hook, who claims that he is a fundamental member of the group and that they wouldn’t be the same without him.
“I first I heard about this on Monday and it has taken me completely by surprise!”, said Hook. “Everyone knows that New Order without Peter Hook is like Queen without Freddie Mercury, U2 without The Edge, and Sooty without Sweep!
“On a more serious note, I do not understand the decision the other three have taken. I wish they had approached me first. I do not agree with the methods they have used and feel it would have been courteous and professional to have spoken to me in advance of the announcements. It is very sad.”
The statement continues the messy and bitter break up the band suffered and it’ll be interesting to see if the rest of the band has a reply. Stick with Stereoboard for more New Order news.
