Mitch Winehouse 'Upset' After Designer Hosts Fashion Show Tribute To His Daughter Amy

Mitch Winehouse, father of late superstar Amy Winehouse, has revealed how he was left disgusted after a fashion designer held a show where the models were dressed and styled to mimic his daughter – in the same week as the six month anniversary of her death.

Designer Jean Paul Gaultier staged the show in Paris as a ‘tribute’ to the singer, but Mitch described it as a ‘total shock’, telling The Sun that he and his family were ‘upset’ to see the pictures of the show. Models were made-up to look as similar to Amy was possible, wearing heavy eye make-up, sporting beehive-style hair-dos and smoking cigarettes as they walked down the cat walk.

“The family was upset to see those pictures, they were a total shock,” Mitch told The Sun. “We're still grieving for her loss, and we've had a difficult week with the six-month anniversary of Amy's death. To see her image lifted wholesale to sell clothes was a wrench we were not expecting or consulted on.

“We're proud of her influence on fashion but find black veils on models, smoking cigarettes with a barbershop quartet singing her music in bad taste. It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best, and glamorises some of the more upsetting times in her life. That's upsetting for her family.”

He went on to claim that designer Gaultier was simply out to make money from the singer and her death, and that he was unhappy that there was no donation to the Amy Winehouse Foundation. Gaultier, on the other hand, thought the event was a ‘joyous tribute’.
