'We Won't Come Back Until We Have Something Brand New And Distinct', Say Friendly Fires

Indie-funk band Friendly Fires have told fans that they won’t be putting out a third studio album – until they’ve created something ‘distinct’, ‘valid’, and something completely brand new.

The band released their eponymous debut album in 2008, and followed it up with ‘Pala’, which came out last year. They’ve already revealed that they’ve begun work on a new record – now they’ve promised fans that it won’t be coming out until they’ve got produced some completely fresh material.

Speaking to NME, drummer Jack Savidge said: “We want to explore some other things. We consider 'Pala' a continuation of the first record and I think this time we'll want to come back with something new to keep everybody else interested. We won't come back until we have something that's valid and distinct. You can't just knock out the same stuff over and over. We're trying to push ourselves forward.”

They went on to talk about their new album, with the band revealing that they’ve recorded a track Primal Scream’s Andrew Weatherall.

Savidge said: “You'll all hear it soon. We're really pleased with it. We were never in the studio with him, he hates having musicians in the studio. We did it all with delivering CDs via management. He took what we'd done, ripped it apart and put it back together in his own way. It sounds great and it's a real summer track. A kind of languid summer track.”

Friendly Fires have a handful of UK dates lined-up for this summer, including a slot at RockNess Festival in June. For more information and tickets, check the dates and details below.
