An axe-wielding activist allegedly stormed into a judge's office and threatened to attack her if she didn't release Russian protest band Pussy Riot, who are currently in court facing jail following an impromptu performance in protest of the Orthodox Church's support of Russian primeminister Vladimir Putin.
The wild story was reported in the Moscow Times and follows a scuffle outside of the court house last week, which resulted in 13 pro-Pussy Riot protestors being arrested. The judge, Yelena Ivanova, reportedly managed to fend off the attacker after receiving help from court officers, but its unknown whether she was injured in any way. Pussy Riot lawyers have denied have any relation to the attacker, and have stated that he is not connected with their case.
The Moscow Times reports that the attacker was stood near Ivanova's office asking people where he'd be able to submit a court petition, before he entered the room. The axeman was apparently inside the room for sometime before turning on Ivanova, which is when screams could be heard by those outside. The attacker was then dragged out in handcuffs. A witness told press: “At first, he behaved decently.”
We'll bring you more on the case of Pussy Riot as it unfolds.
