Bee Gees Star Robin Gibb Passes Away Age 62

Music fans worldwide have been left in a state of mourning today after Robin Gibb, one third of the legendary Bee Gees trio, passed away aged 62 following a long battle with Robin Gibb.

The pop and disco icon held a hugely successful career that spanned over six decades, and was still performing a couple of months ago – his last show was in February, for a charity fundraiser. But, he sadly left us yesterday evening, after a two year battle with colon and liver cancer.

A statement released by his relatives reads: “The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”

The Bee Gees were one of the most successful acts of all time and managed to become a big force in two separate genres of music; pop and disco. They’ve sold over 200,000,000 records and are considered one of the best-selling acts of all time, too.

Speaking of the group, Paul Gambaccini said: “Everyone should be aware that the Bee Gees are second only to Lennon and McCartney as the most successful songwriting unit in British popular music. Their accomplishments have been monumental.

“Not only have they written their own number one hits, but they wrote huge hit records for Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Celine Dion, Destiny's Child, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, the list goes on and on.

“What must also be said is Robin had one of the best white soul voices ever. He was singing lead on his first number one when he was 17, that was ‘Massachusetts’.

Our thoughts go out to his friends and family.
