Alternative rockers Coldplay have been confirmed as the headline act for the closing ceremony of the London 2013 Paralympic Games.
The ceremony will take place on September 9th and will round off the Paralympic Games, an Olympics sporting event held for those with disabilities, amputations and conditions like cerebral palsy. The closing event will form part of the Festival of Flame, and is promised to be a 'spectacular'.
Speaking of the event, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin said: “Being asked to play at the closing celebrations for the Paralympic athletes in London is such a great honour for us. Kim Gavin and Misty Buckley are working hard to put on a spectacular Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony for the athletes and spectators in the stadium, and everyone watching around the world, and we are so happy to be involved.”
Seb Coe – organiser of the event – is extremely excited for their performance, and said: “The London 2012 Paralympic Games are going to be spectacular. I am delighted that Coldplay are going to be helping us celebrate not only the end of a fantastic Paralympic Games, but also the end of a seven year journey.”
