The Stone Roses Have 'Three Or Four New Tracks' Recorded, Spike Island Writer Claims

Manchester rockers The Stone Roses have written and recorded ‘three or four new tracks’ ahead of their huge reunion shows, it has been claimed.

Chris Coghill, writer of the new ‘Spike Island’ film – which is set during the band’s 1990 Spike Island gig – has revealed that the group have been working on some new material, and have already finished ‘three or four’ new songs. Speaking to the BBC about his new film, Coghill explained how the band had given him ‘their blessing’ – and hinted that some of the new tunes could feature in his film.

“I'm mates with Mani and I know Ian a bit,” Coghil told the site. “When we first started talking about it, I emailed them both an outline of what we wanted to do and they said, 'You have our support, you have our blessing, whatever you need.” He then continued on to say that the group ‘have at least three or four new tracks recorded’.

He then finally added about his film: “Essentially, it's my love letter to The Stone Roses and being 16 years old in 1990 in Manchester. There's a little bit of me in all the boys.”
