Following the worldwide smash of 'Somebody That I Used To Know', Australian musician Gotye has revealed he will perform live in the UK this November. Tickets for Gotye are onsale this Friday at 9am.
'Somebody That I Used To Know', which was released in the UK in February, has been a universal hit; to date it has sold over 5 million, topped the charts in 15 countries (iTunes Number One in 31 countries) including the UK where it has sold in excess of 800,000 and still sits strong at Number Three in the charts. The video has tallied up an astonishing 165 million YouTube hits and is still averaging over a million hits a day.
Gotye will return with new single 'Eyes Wide Open' on the 4th June. 'Eyes Wide Open' was the first song recorded for its parent album 'Making Mirrors', which has sold 1.3 million and gone Top 10 in 17 countries (iTunes Top 10 in 26 countries). It peaked in the UK charts at Number Four.
The self-produced track also features field recordings of idiosyncratic instruments, including the Winton Musical Fence, a large musical instrument installation from outback Australia. Gotye explains, “I played the fence strings one windy night in Winton and recorded it on a portable stereo recorder. That became the bassline for 'Eyes Wide Open'.”
