Royal Republic Reveal Details Of New Album 'Save The Nation'

Irreverent rockers Royal Republic roll out the red carpet for their second studio album, ‘Save The Nation’ which hits stores on 24th August 2012. Lead single, ‘Addictive’ is available digitally now.

‘Save The Nation’ was recorded at Berlin’s legendary Hansa Studios. David Bowie was inspired by the view from the roof of a kissing couple to write his song ‘Heroes’. Here Depeche Mode penned ‘Construction Time Again’ and U2 created their masterpiece ‘Achtung Baby’, a year after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Now, our four Swedish friends have tracked their latest release in this historic space, with producer Michael Ilbert.

Discussing the writing process for the newie, frontman Adam Grahn explains: "The vibe for me was, let’s try everything that comes out before we say no, because you might find something there. We wanted to expand, not change who we are or the sound, but just widen it a little bit”.

So Royal Republic expanded the punk, hard rock and funk elements of 2010’s debut album (‘We Are The Royal’) to include a few new toys. They tried out new arrangements, repeated their faithful vow to rock'n'roll and always kept one ear at the door to disco. They even wanted to recruit a childrens choir for new song 'Everybody Wants To Be An Astronaut', but you'll have to check out the album to hear if they succeeded.

Grahn continues: “I don’t know if it came out in the lyrics, but when the last tour ended, we had been on the road for 2 years. For me when I got home, during that period, a lot of things had happened in the lives of those back home. People getting sick, dying, moving, people changing careers, people having kids. You either didn’t know about it or you didn’t have time to feel sad that some people were gone - because I was always on the road and doing this happy face and playing the show. So that was weird. I don’t know if it’s in the lyrics. But songwriting keeps us happy, it keeps everyone level. That’s the reason why we started this band."

After the release of their debut album 'We Are The Royal' in the summer of 2010, the band toured relentlessly throughout Europe, and thrilled crowds at gatherings like Germany’s Rock Am Ring, Australia’s Soundwave and the UK’s legendary Download Festival (playing not only one, but three separate sets over the course of the weekend). This album cycle’s touring plans are shaping up similarly, as the band hit the road on release and roll into the UK in mid-November for a batch of shows.
