Hip-hop and grime star Plan B has hit out at the X-Factor and its all-powerful chief Simon Cowell, claiming that the show is simply about ‘image’ and ‘celebrity’, rather than anyone’s musical talent.
In comments which have been echoed by many a star in the past - such as Kasabian’s Tom Meighan - Plan B has aired his distaste at the show, and also stated that he’d never perform on there either - stating that it would be ‘neglecting’ his natural musical ability if he did.
Speaking to Shortlist, the star said: “No disrespect to anyone involved in those shows, but all they do is boost your profile as a celebrity. There are a lot of pop acts with just a pretty face and a half-decent voice. They don't even write their own shit. I'm lucky enough to have a gift that allows me to create things from nothing: music, films, fictional characters. Others don't have that, so their work goes into their image as a celebrity.”
He added finally: “So, if I have a gift like this, wouldn't I be neglecting it if I appeared on a show like The X Factor?”
