With festival goers still drying off from Creamfields or shaking off their Reading and Leeds hangovers it would be easy to assume that the festival season is over. However, as we edge closer to September and the end of another wonderful British ‘summer’, a trip over to the Channel Island of Jersey will treat visitors with the Jersey Live festival this coming weekend.
Set in the lush countryside of the Parish of Trinity, in the rural heart of Jersey, the festival returns for its 9th edition and boasts what co-organiser Warren Le Sueur claims is “one of the best, if not the best line up we’ve ever had.” It is hard not to agree with this statement given that the Sunday night headliner is indie legend Noel Gallagher who is bringing his High Flying Birds to the Channel Island.
The former Oasis man is at the top of a bill that includes festival veterans The Stranglers and fan favourites Primal Scream who will undoubtedly warm-up the crowd with a hit filled set. On the Saturday night dance duo Chase And Status are set to headline the main stage with support from the UK rap star’s Professor Green and Devlin.
The festival boasts six stages in total with a number of international and local artists set to play over the weekend. Up-and-coming acts like Jake Bugg from Nottingham and Brooklyn-based five piece Friends will play alongside a number of Channel Island artists including Badlabecques, who sing entirely in the ancient language of Jerriaise (Jersey-French). The Dance Stage boasts another strong lineup with Jaguar Skills and DJ Hype just two of the big acts set to play.
Jersey Live is a non-camping event; however, there is a wide variety of accommodation options available and getting to Jersey could not be easier from the UK with a number of flights from across the country as well as ferry travel.
With plenty of bars, an entire food village, arts and crafts stalls and its own funfair, yet a capacity of just 10,000 daily, Jersey Live has all the action of a major festival but all the friendliness and intimacy that its boutique status would suggest.
