Karen O, frontwoman of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, has claimed that the band’s forthcoming new album ‘Mosquito’ will bring ‘charisma, sexuality, and gnarl’ back into the music scene.
The trio return with their fourth album - the follow-up to 2009’s ‘It’s Blitz!’ - this April, and are hoping to bring back some of the oompf which they think has been absent from the music scene for the past couple of years.
Speaking about the album with Billboard, the singer and pianist explained: ”I miss the bands that were around when we first started out. When we came up, there was The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and The Make-Up. Where has all the charisma and the sexuality and the gnarl gone? This album is about bringing that back into the fray.”
She went on to talk about their second album - and how she almost walked away from the band because of a falling-out she had with guitarist Nick Zinner.
”It crossed my mind a lot of times,” Karen told the site. “But I felt like I had to finish the record, even though it was really difficult and we were going through intense hardship. Nick and I were on really bad terms. We were forced to support the record, and we had to be around each other a lot – at the shows, on the bus.”
