Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke has claimed that he is currently writing a series of short stories following the recent release of his lyric book ’The Lyrics of Kele Okereke’ - and that he eventually wants to go on to write a novel.
The singer has helped Bloc Party go on to become one of Britain’s most popular indie-rock outfits, and now seems to be turning his hand to writing - and hopes to pen a number of stories, some of which have been inspired by eavesdropping whilst working out!
Talking about a recent experience in the gym, Okereke told GQ: “I heard a trainer and his female client talking about a rendezvous they were planning later and they were being super furtive about it. At first I thought they were just friends but I realised that there was something untoward going on. I got a sense that they were meeting up for more than just training sessions.”
When told he should ‘write a book about it’, he responded: “I am writing a book about it! I'm writing a collection of short stories at the moment. I feel like it was a very eye-opening experience writing those stories but I've already started to think about writing a novel. I think that's what I'm destined to do.”
But, just in case you Bloc Party fans are worried that his writing will get in the way of the band’s work, he reassured them that they’re his ‘priority’.
“We're in the process of writing and recording songs at the moment; we've always been quite good at writing while we're touring so it makes sense to put something else out,” he explained. “I don't think it'll be an album; I feel if the songs are released, it'll be as an EP. Right now my priority is Bloc Party. We're about to make this EP so at the moment I'm just focusing on doing that.”
With new music on the way, we could soon see the band hitting UK venues for a tour sometime in the near future. Stay with Stereoboard to stay up-to-date on the band.
