Singer Christopher Maloney - who appeared on the ninth series of The X Factor back in 2012 - has signed a record deal, according to reports in the press today.
The 35 year-old finished third on the television series, despite being criticised by judge Louis Walsh, and has been working on some original material following the show - now, it’s emerged that he’s signed a deal with Tristar Records to release his debut album.
“I wanted full control over what I was doing and full creativity and I wanted a label that will look after me. I didn't want to go somewhere with big artists where I would be put on the sideline. If I signed with another record company, it would have been a lot longer process and my fans are waiting for my album now.”
He continued:
“There's two people writing it at the moment and one producer. People are expecting an album full of covers but that's not what I'm going to do. There may be one or two covers but it'll be mostly new stuff.”
Maloney also claimed that it would sound ‘different to how people will expect’, and that it would be ‘similar to Will Young's sound when he first came out’. What do you think of the news? Are you excited to hear the record? Leave us a comment in the box below.
