One of the highlights of the summer festival scene, and a previous winner of the UK award for Best Medium Sized Festival, Green Man has announced full details of its newest stage as well as an exciting line up.
Green Man Rising will make its debut at the 2013 event, which takes place in just four weeks' time at the beautiful setting of Glanusk Park Estate in the Brecon Beacons. Wales' biggest festival, Green Man has already developed a strong reputation for its eclectic line ups with many of today's biggest stars, including Mumford & Sons and Laura Marling, having played the event before breaking the mainstream.
Placed in the Fortune Falls art space, Green Man Rising will showcase the very best unknown artists, focusing specifically on Welsh and English acts. Sponsored by Arts Council Wales and Arts Council England this will be the place to be if you want to get a first hand look at some great up and coming talent.
“A long list of IvorNovello, Mercury Prize and Brit Award winners and nominees have emerged from Green Man, and we hope this new stage unearths a few more," Green Man chief Fiona Stewart said. "We come across so much great music we are delighted to be able to offer these exciting acts support and exposure.”
The initial acts announced for the stage are CasiWyn, Christopher Pattermore, Christopher Rees, Cosmos Collapse, Dan Bettridge, Early Ghost, Laurence Made Me Cry, Little Arrow, R Seiliog, Winter Villains, and YrOds with many more to follow.
"I'm super excited to be playing Green Man on the Green Man Rising Stage, and am humbled to be part of such an important festival which shows how Wales can match and surpass the quality of other well known festivals that go on around the country and even the world," Bettridge said. "To be on the same bill as Patti Smith, John Cale and the many other brilliant artists is totally incredible."
Elsewhere, the annual Green Man Rising competition held its final in Camden's Dublin Castle, with Haiku Salut coming out victorious and securing the opening slot on Friday's Mountain Stage. Band member Sophie was overwhelmed by the win, and said: "Blimey! What a great night. We really didn't expect to win. Thank you for the opportunity of playing on the Mountain main stage, it's been a great competition."
The runners-up - Box of Light, Chinese Missy, Molly Wagger, Rad Stewart and the Wild Oats - were delighted to hear that they have all been invited to play on the Green Man Rising stage at Green Man 2013 also.
Green Man 2013 takes place from August 15-18, with tickets still available at exactly the same price they were last year. Musical delights will include punk legend Patti Smith, rising star Ben Howard, live phenomenon Fuck Buttons, Band of Horses, Horrors and a spectacular coup in Kings of Convenience, who rarely play live in the UK. Also on offer is a comedy and spoken word tent packed with talent, a cinema stage, vast children's events in Einstein's Garden, the glorious randomness of Chai Wallahs, high quality food and a full beer festival on site boasting 99 varieties of beer, cider and perry (all at sensible prices too). This is a can't miss event
