Beady Eye Still Expected To Perform At V Festival, Organisers Say

Tuesday, 06 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

V Festival organisers have announced that they’re still expecting Beady Eye to perform later this month, despite the band pulling out of a couple of other festival appearances.

The band’s guitarist, Gem Archer, has been hospitalised, having suffered ‘severe head trauma’ in an accident on August 1. Though they haven’t disclosed what has actually happened to Archer, the band have pulled out of a brace of festival appearances - Lokerse Festival in Belgium and Tokyo’s Summer Sonic.

With the two festivals taking place on August 5 and August 10 respectively, their headline set at V Festival’s 4Music stage was also thrown into doubt, with many fans crossing their fingers hoping they still perform. Now, giving them some hope, the festival’s organisers have revealed that they’re still expecting Liam Gallagher and co to take to the stage.

A representative for the festival told NME:

“Unless they hear otherwise they're still playing.”

The band released a statement on Archer’s condition via their website last night - they said:

“Following an accident on the evening of Thursday August 1st, Beady Eye guitarist Gem Archer was hospitalised with severe head trauma. He is currently in a stable condition but continues to stay in hospital under observation. As previously reported, shows this week in Belgium and Japan have been cancelled.

“His family, friends and bandmates thank everyone who have sent messages of support and well wishes so far and hope to see him back on his feet soon. An update on his condition will follow.”
