Thursday, 08 May 2014 Written by Huw Baines

After weeks of speculation, Metallica have been confirmed as the Saturday night headliners at Glastonbury, joining Arcade Fire and Kasabian in topping the bill on the Pyramid Stage.

Joining the metal legends on the main stage are The War On Drugs, Nick Mulvey and the English National Ballet, while The Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band , St. Vincent, Haim, Bombay Bicycle Club, the Horrors, the London Sinfonietta and Jonny Greenwood, the Stepkids and Deltron 3030 will also head to Worthy Farm between June 27 and 29.

Discussing the latest line up news, Michael Eavis said:

"Metallica are one of the most popular bands in the world. And they really are a phenomenal live act. This a band that can sell out stadiums in pretty much every country on the planet. From Newlyn to Newcastle on my travels, all through the years, people keen asking me, 'When are Metallica going to play?' There's a huge swathe of people who love Metallica to bits and just think they're absolutely amazing. They're worthy headliners!"

In addition to Glastonbury, Metallica will also head to Knebworth this summer as headliners of Sonisphere, alongside Iron Maiden and the Prodigy.
