Eagles Of Death Metal - Zipper Down (Album Review)
Friday, 09 October 2015
Written by Laura Johnson
It’s been over a decade since Eagles Of Death Metal’s debut and seven years since their last LP, ‘Heart On’. Is ‘Zipper Down’ worth the wait? Hell yes. As Jesse Hughes sings on Complexity, Eagles Of Death Metal are the itch you didn’t know you wanted to scratch.
Any complaints that may arise from playing this record will likely come from the those who become enraged by your infernal toe-tapping, which will only cease long enough for you to start shaking your hips to Silverlake, a track that pokes fun at Los Angeles’ celebrity culture, something in which Hughes is well versed.
Got A Woman continues the relentless rock ’n’ roll pace, propelled by Josh Homme’s punishing drums. The momentum slows for a moment on I Love You All The Time, which takes us a bit further south, but the party gets its second wind on Got The Power, driven on by Homme and wailing guitars.
In a surprise move, the album’s penultimate track is a cover of Duran Duran’s Save A Prayer, which, although scuzzed up to give it the EODM treatment, is an impressive rendition and true to the original. Unexpected, but brilliant.
They say time flies when you’re having fun, so be prepared for warp speed with ‘Zipper Down’, a whirlwind of sex, riffs and pure rock ’n’ roll revelry.
