James Mercer Confirms Early 2017 Release For The Shins New Album

Monday, 15 August 2016 Written by Laura Johnson

James Mercer has confirmed that the Shins' new album will be released in early 2017.

During an interview with Portland radio station KBOO 90.7 the founder and frontman of the band revealed that he had intended for the album to come out this year. Due to his label wanting more time to promote the record, though, its release has been pushed back.

“The record is done, basically, and mixed. We’ve been making little tweaks just because we have extra time. My intention was to have the record come out this year, but there's inevitably these reasons that the label, or whatever, wants to postpone release, just so that they have more time to set things up and do whatever sort of marketing and things that they have to do. It looks like it'll be coming out next year, early next year, like January, hopefully."

The Shins last release was 2012's 'Port Of Morrow'. Check out Simple Song, lifted from it, below.

The Shins will play a one off show at the Village Underground on September 2. Tickets are on sale now.
