Elena Tonra has announced her debut solo album.
Daughter's vocalist and guitarist will put out a self-titled LP under the moniker Ex:Re on November 30 through 4AD and Glassnote Records. Prior to this she will play London's Hoxton Hall on November 28. Tickets are on sale now.
“Although the record is written for someone, a lot of the time it’s about the space without that person in it. In every scenario, there’s either the person in memory or the noticeable absence of that person in the present moment. I suppose it is a break-up record, however I do not talk about the relationship at all, and he hardly features in the scenes. He is only felt as a ghostly presence.”
Head below to watch the video for the record's first single, Romance. "Romance is dead and done, and it hits between the eyes on this side," Tonra sings on the chorus. Throughout, her vocals are haunting, while the drums feature prominently, edging towards being frantic. Tonra's melancholic rehashing of an old releationship is boosted further by a layer of string and samples.
