Mikal Cronin has returned with a new song, Undertow.
The track marks the first solo material from the Los Angeles-based rocker since his 2015 album, 'MCIII', and serves as the first taste of his forthcoming 7", out on May 10 via Famous Class. The song will be backed by another new track called Breathe.
Cronin, who occasionally performs as part of Ty Segall's live band, is joined on the breezy, melodic track by William Tyler on guitar and additional vocalist Shannon Lay, among others. There's influences from both americana as welll as garage rock, with guitar licks spread throughout its five minutes. Cronin explained:
"It's easy to get caught up in an undertow, pulled down into the water, weightless and directionless. The current stirs and you lose your way. But eventually, if you're lucky and patient, you can float back up to the surface and take a breath.
"This is my first new music in a while — my gulp of air. Many talented friends joined me, the basic tracks were recorded live together for the first time in my recording career. This felt good."
