Lamb Of God have shared a new song from their upcoming eighth studio album.
Memento Mori, which translated in to Spanish means "be mindful of death", serves as the opening track of the Virginia metallers' self-titled record, due out on May 28 via Nuclear Blast Records. It's a dark, brooding number that begins on a clean, sombre note before frontman Randy Blythe's scream of "Wake up!" ups the ante.
The song arrives with a horror-inspired video and follows the previously shared early cut Checkmate. Discussing the message behind the topical lyrics and clip, Blythe said:
"There is a vast amount of indisputably real and depressingly negative occurrences happening across the globe. Currently, at the forefront of everyone’s mind is the global COVID-19 pandemic. This is a very real concern, and proper precautions need to be taken by EVERYONE in order to protect those most at risk - the elderly, infirm, and immunocompromised.
"It is indeed a scary time, but in this hyper-connected age with its 24/7 never-ending news cycle of atrocity, outrage, and lurid click-bait headlines (not to mention ill-informed lunatics running amok and spreading misinformation and panic on social media), it is all too easy to lose sight of the fact that life is still carrying on, and good things do in fact still happen."
Lamb Of God are hoping to join forces with Megadeth for a North American co-headline tour this summer. Their spring UK and European trek with Kreator and Powertrip, meanwhile, has been postponed due to coronavirus concerns.
