Margaret Glaspy has shared a video for the title track of her sophomore album.
With 'Devotion' due out on March 27 via ATO Records, the record's namesake is a serene song that finds the California-raised singer-songwriter showcasing emotional fragility through some stirring lyrics.
The track comes with a stripped-back performance video featuring Glaspy, her keyboardist Eric Lane and drummer Tim Kuhl in action at Brooklyn's Atomic Studios, where she recorded the LP alongside co-producer Tyler Chester. She said:
"When we were in the studio making the record, the vibe for this song had a life of its own. Tim started to drum along on his lap in the control room and that felt like it was exactly what it needed, something that wasn't a kit but felt just as percussive.
"We ended up going in that direction and wanted to recreate it in this video. I grew up playing music this way— without any amplification so you really had to listen to one another and get close."
Devotion follows the previously shared first single off the record, Killing What Keeps Us Alive, as well as Stay With Me.
Glaspy was due to support the follow-up to 2016's 'Emotions and Math' with UK shows this spring. However, due to the concerns around the coronavirus pandemic she has rescheduled her dates around her appearance at End of the Road Festival in September. All original tickets will be honoured for the rearranged performances.
