The mellow, Scribz Riley-produced track is inspired by a long-distance relationship. The striking level of confidence exuded follows suit with the rest of the R&B up-and-comer's work to date, and its subject mirrors the current struggles of life in lockdown surprisingly well. He said:
“Overseas was inspired by a long-distance relationship. Last year I spent a lot of time travelling, touring and visiting cities around the world. During those times you get to meet so new many people and form new relationships, some that are still going strong today.
"I thought that now was the perfect time to drop this song, especially during lockdown and the struggles everyone is having to go through. I know everyone can definitely relate to not being able to physically hold onto your loved ones right now, but I guess thanks to technology we can still keep those relationships alive.”
Overseas is James' first new offering since the 'Detour' EP, which came out in 2019.
