The Smashing Pumpkins have shared a couple of new singles.
Cyr and The Colour of Love are streaming below, offering a couple of synth-heavy, ‘80s goth looks into the band’s future post 2018’s ‘Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun.’.
That record was notable for reuniting Billy Corgan with James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin, alongside guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who are currently working on its follow-up, with further details set to be confirmed soon.
“Cyr is dystopic folly,” exlained Corgan in a statement. “One soul against the world sort of stuff, set against a backdrop of shifting loyalties and sped up time. To me it stands as both hopeful and dismissive of what is and isn't possible with faith.”
Head below to watch a performance video for the track that was shot in Chicago and Los Angeles during the coronavirus lockdown. It was directed by Linda Strawberry, who said: “This is a goth fever dream of pent up emotion – an artistic visual release attempting to create a momentary escape from the emotional black cloud hanging over all of us this year. A dark seduction filmed in quarantine at a social distance”
