The Mountain Goats have released the second single from their upcoming album.
“You were born for these flashing lights”, begins Get Famous, but don’t let the upbeat bounce to frontman John Darnielle’s vocals fool you, this is not an ode to someone deserving of more fame. Get Famous is a backhanded compliment as fame is considered to be a curse, not a gift.
The track is the second offering from the band's nineteenth studio album ‘Getting Into Knives’, following the atmospheric lead single As Many Candles As Possible.
Recorded in a single week at the legendary Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, Tennessee, the follow-up to April’s ‘Songs For Pierre Chuvin’ is due out on October 23 via Merge Records. Darnielle said:
“If I told you all how much fun we had making this one you wouldn’t even believe me, but we hope it comes through.”
