Hot Chip have collaborated with Jarvis Cocker for a new single.
Straight To The Morning was co-produced by Mark Ralph and leans towards the disco aesthetic of the synth-pop quintet's sound, while the signature breathy vocals of the Britpop icon feature in the background. He also appears in the track's accompanying Réalité-directed video, viewable below. The band said:
"Straight To The Morning is a disco anthem about going out, for a time when people really can't, and it features our friend Jarvis Cocker urging us to go 'straight through until the break of dawn.' Somehow he seems an unlikely figure in this all, and we like it that way."
Talking about the collaboration, which materialised from the two acts DJing together at Paris' Les Bains-Douches, Jarvis added:
"This was the very last musical session I was involved in before lockdown. It felt very poignant to be singing a song about dancing all night long in a club whilst knowing it wouldn’t be possible to do such a thing for the foreseeable future. We danced around the studio quite a lot in the meantime though. It was fun to be a member of the Straight Through Crew for a day."
Straight To The Morning will be available on January 15 as a limited 10" vinyl with a Mighty Mouse remix on the flip side. Head here for pre-orders.
Hot Chip played a socially distanced show at Margate's Dreamland in September. They also recently contributed seven new songs to their instalment of the Late Night Tales compilation series. Their seventh full-length, 'A Bath Full Of Ecstasy', landed in 2019.
Cocker, meanwhile, has been busy with his new project JARV IS.... The group released their debut LP, 'Beyond the Pale' in July and earlier in October rescheduled their UK tour dates for a second time in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The sextet have also shared details of a cinematic tour for their new concert film, Beyond The Pale… Live From The Centre Of The Earth, due on the big screen in November and December.
