Sam Fender has released a cover of Winter Song.
The North Shields singer-songwriter took to social media to share his take on the seasonal track by Newcastle folk-rockers Lindisfarne. It appeared on the group's 1970 LP 'Nicely Out Of Tune' and was penned by founding member Alan Hull.
The emotive reworking pairs soft piano with gentle guitar strums and comes coupled with a lyric video created in collaboration with People Of The Streets, an organisation that helps support the homeless. The singer is also selling The Big Issue via his official webstore with profits being split between vendors of the magazine. Fender said:
"I wanted to do a Christmas song, and wanted it to be close to my home and my heart. For me, the words are more relevant this year than ever. Christmas won’t be the same for a lot of people this year, and that’s why I picked Winter Song.
"Alan Hull truly was one of the most fantastic and underrated writers of his time. Geordie legend. I hope I’ve done it justice, I’m really proud of it."
Back in the summer, Fender rescheduled his Hypersonic Missiles Tour for a third time due to the coronavirus pandemic. The trek shares its name with his 2019 debut album.
