A posthumous Prince song called Born 2 Die has been shared.
The ornate, slow jam takes a swipe at American society and serves as the second pre-release single from the late funk icon's upcoming LP, 'Welcome 2 America', following the title track in April.
According to the details accompanying the stream on YouTube, Born 2 Die was recorded "when President Obama was just a year into his first term and Prince was reflecting deeply on the issues affecting the Black community and the role he hoped to play." Morris Hayes, who provided additional production on the track, said:
"We got to Born 2 Die, and Prince said, 'I'll tell you how that came about,'. He had been watching videos of his friend Dr. Cornel West on YouTube, and during one speech Dr. West said, 'I love my brother Prince, but he’s no Curtis Mayfield.' So Prince said, 'Oh really? We will see.'"
The record is due out on July 30 via the Sony label Legacy Recordings.
