Boy Harsher have shared details of their fifth studio album, that also serves as a soundtrack for a short horror film.
The Northampton, Massachusetts duo wrote, produced and directed The Runner, which will arrive early in 2022 alongside the accompanying record, 'The Runner (Original Soundtrack)', due out on January 21 via Nude Club/City Slang.
Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller have unveiled the record's opening track and the film's introduction, Tower, a pulsing synth-led dark-pop offering that builds ominously to a chilling climax.
"We wrote Tower several years ago and although it's evolved over the years, its initial intent remains the same - that feeling of being enveloped, suffocated, entrapped in a relationship, which in turn manifests into reckless attack,” explained Matthews. "What you love the most can make you into a monster. And that's what this song is about, being a paralyzed fiend."
Boy Harsher will play a handful of US shows this autumn, before a tour of North America early in 2022 in support of the release. They also have a London show and film screening in the diary for February 20.
'The Runner (Original Soundtrack)' tracklist:
1. Tower
2. Give Me A Reason
3. Autonomy (featuring Lucy – Cooper B. Handy)
4. The Ride Home
5. Escape
6. Machina (featuring Ms. BOAN – Mariana Saldaña)
7. Untitled (Piano)
8. I Understand
