Alt-J have shared a new track.
Following U&ME, Get Better marks the second single to be lifted from the Mercury Prize-winning band's upcoming fourth LP, 'The Dream', due out on February 11 via Canvasback/Atlantic.
Cast across a stripped back, plaintive production, and guided by Joe Newman's vocals alongside haunting harmonies with bandmate Gus Unger-Hamilton, the stirring number serves as one of the group's most introspective yet. It arrives paired with an animated video, created by Hamburg-based pixel artist Stefanie Grunwald. Newman commented:
"Get Better is the union of two songs. The first was an improvised song I sang in 2018 to my partner. To her I sang 'Get better my Darcy, I know you can’. She filmed it and I kept revisiting the fragment with a plan to write more. The second was a chord structure I worked on in lockdown that focused on someone living through a bereavement. I felt a nervous heat when writing Get Better. The context of the Coronavirus pandemic lent my words a chilling weight and gave me a new sense of responsibility as a lyricist. Whilst the direct events described are fictional, I believe - or I hope - that it's emotionally the most honest song I've written."
Alt-J have also announced the UK and Ireland leg of The Dream Tour, due to take place next spring. The run will kick off in Glasgow on May 7, before stops in Leeds, Manchester, London, Dublin, and Belfast, concluding in Birmingham at the end of the month. Tickets go on general sale at 9am on November 12.
The trek gets underway with the previously confirmed North American leg in February.
