A posthumous Aaliyah song has been shared.
Poison features The Weeknd and arrives via Blackground Records 2.0 and Empire. It'll appear on the first official Aaliyah release in over 10 years, 'Unstoppable', due out in 2022. Barry Hankerson, Blackground Records founder and Aaliyah’s uncle commented:
"I’m so excited to share this new song by Aaliyah and the very talented The Weeknd. I wanted her adoring fans to get a special gift before the holidays and felt it was the perfect time to release a never-before-heard offering."
The slow R&B duet arrives after Hankerson revealed in an August interview with Billboard that he and Empire had struck a deal to release the rest of the icon's music, including her first posthumous album, to streaming services.
Her sophomore record, 1996's 'One In A Million', hit digital streaming platforms that same month, just before its 25th anniversary, and the 20th anniversary of Aaliyah's death. She died in a plane crash in 2001 aged 22 years old.
The Weeknd has also teamed up with FKA Twigs for the single, Tears In The Club.
