Soak, real name Bridie Monds-Watson, has announced their third album.
'If I Never Know You Like This Again' will arrive through Rough Trade Records on May 20, following up 2019's 'Grim Town'.
Written during the pandemic with longtime collaborator Tommy McLaughlin, the record draws influences from legendary bands such as Broken Social Scene and Pavement, as well as Radiohead's 1995 LP 'The Bends'.
It centres around the idea of identity, the Derry artist explained:
"I hate the idea of getting older and forgetting, or having a family and not being able to perfectly explain a memory or a feeling. I always want to remember exactly how I felt at a certain moment.
"This record is the most accurate picture of me. I felt no pressure at all, it was almost like I was ranting as I was writing. When I was looking to the past, it was as though I had a big lottery ball of all my recent memories and I would just randomly select which one I wanted to unpack. It helped me to process my past."
Alongside the news, they've shared the new track Last July, which dips into '90s indie-rock, unfurling around layers of guitars. It comes with a video shot by Ellius Grace and starring Monds-Watson and their partner.
Soak will tour the UK and Ireland in the spring, following a run of shows beginning later in January as part of Independent Venues Week. Tickets for the latter are on sale now, while tickets for the spring shows go on sale at 10am on January 28.
