Jimmy Eat World have released a new single, Something Loud.
Inspiration for the track came to vocalist and guitarist Jim Adkins when he saw the reaction to the announcement for When We Were Young, a new Las Vegas festival that will take place this October and features new and up-and-coming artists alongside emo, rock and pop-punk bands that broke through in the early '00s.
“While I thought I made the most of the early band days, I realize now I missed some stuff," he said. "You’re in such a hurry to grow out of the formidable years. Like shit-togetherness is going to magically arrive when you hit some age you thought ‘grownups’ were. Yeah, it doesn’t work that way. But maybe the thing age and experience do reveal is that pivotal moments are hard to grasp when you are in them.”
The song, which deals in reflective lyrics, melodic rock and an earworm chorus, was produced by the Arizona band with Justin Meldel-Johnson, and arrives with a video co-directed by them and Austin Gavin. Take a look below.
Jimmy Eat World's most recent album is 2019's 'Surviving'. Though there's no word on if the new single will feature on its follow-up, they have named their fall tour of North America after it.
Ahead of that, they'll play a rescheduled UK and European tour beginning on June 17 in Luxembourg. Tickets are on sale now.
