Weezer have cancelled their upcoming residency in New York.
The band were set to play five shows at the Broadway Theatre between September 13 and 18, but they will not be going ahead, "due to low ticket sales and unbelievably high expenses." In a statement shared to their channel on the Discord platform, frontman Rivers Cuomo explained:
"I just learned that our Broadway shows have been cancelled (due to low ticket sales and unbelievably high expenses.) I’m very sorry to be telling you this now after we’ve already invested so much time, thought, and emotion. Extra apologies to those of you who cleared schedules and made travel plans to be with us. Thanks to @Broadway Producer for all your hard work and great ideas. I loved where we were going and I hope we can find a way to resurrect our vision."
Back in June, the band released 'SZNZ: Summer' as the latest edition of the four-part EP project. 'SZNZ: Spring' came out in March, and 'SZNZ: Autumn' is due out on September 23, and 'SZNZ: Winter' will arrive on December 21.
Weezer's last album was 2021's 'Van Weezer'.
