Punk icon and The Raincoats' founding member, Gina Birch, has announced her debut solo album.
'I Play My Bass Loud' is out on February 24 via Third Man Records and features the newly unveiled single, Wish I Was You, a propulsive, punk-fuelled offering co-written and co-produced by Killing Joke bassist Youth.
Following 2021's Feminist Song, the biting track features Thurston Moore on guitar, and comes with a video directed by Birch's daughter Honey. Birch said in a statement:
"The album distils my years of musical, political, and artistic life with these genre-breaking songs. It’s a personal diary using sounds and lyrics, full of fun, rage, and storytelling."
The Raincoats released four studio albums, beginning with their 1979 self-titled debut and concluding with 1996's 'Looking In The Shadows'.
Birch has a handful of UK tour dates in the diary for March. She'll also play The Blue Basement at London's Third Man Records on November 11.
