Lanterns On The Lake have announced a new album.
Their self-produced fifth studio full-length is called 'Versions Of Us' and will arrive on June 2 via Bella Union. It finds the Newcastle band joined by Radiohead’s Philip Selway on drums and additional percussion throughout the record. Lead vocalist Hazel Wilde said:
"Philip brought an energy to the songs that reignited our belief in them. Within a few weeks we had a whole other version of the album and things felt very different. We had changed the destiny of the record."
As a preview, they've shared the album's opener, The Likes Of Us, as the first single. It's a brooding, panoramic track that fuses folk-rock influences and post-rock instrumentals.
The follow-up to 2020's 'Spook The Heard' features nine songs, mixed by the band's guitarist Paul Gregory, in the bedroom of his home in North Shields. Wilde added:
"Writing songs requires a certain level of self-indulgence, and songwriters can be prone to dwelling on themselves. Motherhood made me aware of having a different stake in the world. I've got to believe that there’s a better way and an alternative future to the one we’ve been hurtling towards. I’ve also got to believe that I could be better as a person, too."
Alongside the news, the group have confirmed an autumn UK tour, which includes a show at Islington Assembly Hall in London on November 30. Tickets go on general sale at 9am on March 3. They'll also appear at Bearded Theory festival in late May.
