Foo Fighters have revealed Josh Freese as their new drummer.
Freese, a prolific session and touring drummer who has contributed to records by the likes of Lana Del Rey, Rob Zombie, Bruce Springsteen, A Perfect Circle and Sting, will be behind the kit for the band following the passing of percussionist Taylor Hawkins in March 2022.
The Seattle rock giants confirmed the news yesterday (May 21) during their free livestream event, Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts, a studio session recorded at the group's 606 studios in California.
With the band's summer North American tour kicking off in just a couple of days, it's unclear whether Freese is a permanent member, or filling in live for now. In the past, the 50-year-old has been a member of Guns N' Roses, Nine Inch Nails, The Offspring and Weezer, and has played on songs such as the Evanescence hit Bring Me To Life, Meredith Brooks' Bitch, and Good Charlotte's The Anthem.
Foo Fighters recently shared Under You, the second taster of their new album, 'But Here We Are', due out on June 2. In April, they dropped the record's opener, Rescued.
The group will commence their run of shows on Wednesday (May 24) in Gilford, New Hampshire. Their schedule includes dates with The Breeders, and various festival appearances. They'll also play European festivals in June, topping the bill at both Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park in Germany.
