The Pigeon Detectives Share New Track Summer Girl From Sixth Album 'TV Show'

The Pigeon Detectives have dropped a new track, Summer Girl.
It's the latest single from the Leeds five-piece's sixth album, 'TV Show', which is scheduled to arrive on July 7 via Dance To The Radio.
Inspired by a tough situation experienced by frontman Matt Bowman and his wife during the COVID-19 lockdown, it marks one of the band's more personal tunes, though it retains the anthemic indie-rock sound heard on previous singles Falling To Pieces and Lovers Come And Lovers Go. Bowman said:
"I wrote this song about me and my wife's lockdown experience. She'd recently had a kidney transplant and couldn't leave the house for fear of death! For a year the closest she came to the outside world was smoking out of the window of our house (blowing out the window) and I really don't know how she coped. The situation also took a toll on me and at times I felt like I couldn't breathe, resorting to periods of self-medicating to cope, which is covered in the second verse of the song.
"The main line of the chorus Summer Girl is my shoutout to my wife as she hadn't left the house for over 12 months and then plucked up the courage to go to Leeds Festival (in the summer!) and start to rebuild her confidence and enjoy life again. The Euphoric Summer Girl section at the end is tribute to how proud I was of her for surviving lock down and she really was my Summer Girl that year."
The group will celebrate the record with a run of record store performances, culminating with two hometown gigs at The Wardrobe in Leeds on July 13. They'll also hit the road in the autumn for a UK tour.
