Teresa Taylor, a former drummer in Butthole Surfers, has died aged 60.

The musician had been fighting lung disease for a long time, and passed away over the weekend. Her bandmates shared a statement via social medias:

"Teresa Taylor passed away peacefully this weekend after a long battle with lung disease. She will live in our hearts forever. RIP, dear friend."

Taylor was born in Arlington, Texas in 1962. She joined Butthole Surfers in 1983, following the release of their self-titled debut EP. She played drums on the albums 'Psychic… Powerless… Another Man’s Sac', 'Rembrandt Pussyhorse', 'Locust Abortion Technician' and 'Hairway To Steven'.

She left the band in 1989 after a period of extensive touring. That same year, she began experiencing light-induced seizures, which resulted in the diagnosis of a brain aneurysm, which led to successful brain surgery in 1993.

She went on to play in fellow Butthole Surfers drummer King Coffey's band Rubble, and rejoined Butthole Surfers for tours in the late 2000s. While famous as a musician, she also made a brief appearance in the 1990 Richard Linklater film Slacker.

In 2021, Taylor announced on Facebook she living with a lung condition and had a, “one-to-five [year] life expectancy.” She wrote at the time: “I know I smoked like a chimney and this is to be expected. My spirits are up."
