Foo Fighters' Chris Shiflett Announces Third Solo Album 'Lost At Sea', Shares New Single

Wednesday, 12 July 2023 Written by Jon Stickler

Foo Fighters' Chris Shiflett has announced his third solo LP.

'Lost At Sea' will arrive on October 20 through Snakefarm in the UK and Ireland, following up 2019's 'Hard Lessons' and 2017's 'West Coast Town'. It was mostly recorded in Nashville, alongside producer and collaborator Jaren Johnston, frontman of The Cadillac Three.

To accompany the news, the singer-songwriter and guitarist has shared the easy-going Damage Control, which unfurls across a breezy, country-rock-tinged rhythm, a blend of Shiflett's influences that he has dubbed "Ska-mericana." It comes with video featuring fan filmed footage from shows on his spring UK tour.

Discussing his new music, Shiflett said:

"I love that the musical inspiration on this one was late-stage Clash, but we wound up layering it with banjos and what-not. Definitely takes it somewhere else. Ska-mericana? There’s nothing better than when influences converge, taking you places you never expected."

"All the other tunes were written in the months leading up to recording, but when Jaren and I were sorting out which songs to do he mentioned something about The Clash and I remembered this old one I’d demoed about 15 years prior."

The track will be joined on the record by the previously unveiled cuts Dead And Gone and Black Top White Lines. "We wrote a lot of these songs during the lockdown," he continued. "Then I began making trips to Nashville to work with Jaren.

"He and I have a lot of overlap, in terms of the music we like. We made a guitar-centric record that encapsulates everything I've been listening to over the years, from the most country songs I've ever recorded to punk rock and even songs that sound like a California version of The Clash."

Foo Fighters, meanwhile, are currently on the road in North America with their Everything Or Nothing Tour, which visits Lebreton Flats in Ottawa tonight (July 12). The Grammy Award-winning rockers have Australian and New Zealand shows scheduled for November, December and January, before UK stadium concerts next June. The band are touring in support of their new album, 'But Here We Are', released in June.

4. Damage Control
5. Weigh You Down
